Hapa Artist Spotlight: Sachi Love

 SACHI LOVE

The jewelry line "Sachi Love" all started when its creator Sachi started making jewelry pieces for herself and her friends as a hobby, then she started to get request from other people for her jewelry and the rest is history. Sachi sources her lace from Los Angeles, CA. She cuts, hand dyes, and hand stiffens the lace so that the lace doesn't lose it's shape. The kinds of metals she uses are antique bronze and bronze plated; which are nickle free.
She mentions her  favorite piece she makes for her line is the double dangle earrings because she loves big earrings. What makes Sachi's earrings so great is that they are super light compared to other earrings. She also says what sets her line apart from other lines is that she hand dyes each lace earring so no two are the same.

When asked what spring jewelry trends she is loving for Spring 2013 she said one word "daisy". This has inspired her daisy lace jewelry. She also said she is loving all the bright colors and pastels that are going to be popular this spring.

Sachi's five year goal  for her line "Sachi Love" is to see her jewelry in major department stores like Nordstrom. She says she would never want to mass produce her jewelry, she always wants to keep it locally made! Which Hapa Collective loves!

Hapa Collective has her new spring line and we'd love for you to stop by and shop!

Hapa Collective's Artist Spotlight: Wine Country Crafters

{Hapa Collective's Artist Spotlight}
Wine Country Crafters

1. How did Wine Country Crafters come about?
"We have always considered ourselves wine enthusiasts. We were saving our wine
corks and decided to do something creative by recycling them into something
people would enjoy. Our first cork creation was our wreaths and we added various
items from there. Wine Country Crafters will always be a work in progress and we
are constantly looking for creative ways to grow."

 2. How long has the company been around?
"Wine Country Crafters began in 2009. We started by selling our pieces at local
craft shows and now have shipped orders to almost every state, along with Canada
and Europe. We really enjoy getting the chance to meet new people both locally
and from around the world."

3. What is the process for the making the cork pieces?
"The process varies from piece to piece. Some items require the corks be cut,
like the coasters and memo board. Some items use the corks whole, like the
wreaths and some are very detailed such as our ornaments. During each step of
the process, we take pride in each piece being uniquely hand crafted."

4. Where do the pieces get made?
"All the products are hand crafted at our workshop located in Torrance, CA."

 5. Favorite pieces you make?
"Our favorite piece to make is the reindeer Christmas ornament. With the
different colors and designs on the corks, each reindeer ornament is truly
unique. When the face and antlers are assembled, the reindeer seem to come to
life. Our reindeer ornament continues to be one of our most popular items."

6. Goals for the company?
"We are always looking to grow the company but maintain our unique hand crafted
style. We will continue to sell at local craft shows and expand our on-line
business through our storefront on Esty. In addition to Hapa Collective, our
items are available at several retail locations throughout the United States.
The goal is and always will be maintaining the integrity of our unique products."

7. Things you would like customers to know about your products that makes them
unique?
"All the items we make at WCC are made by hand. With each piece we make, we
take great care to maintain the integrity of the corks. The corks are always the
focal point of our items. No two items we have created are the same. We also
offer our customers the option to customize an item with their corks or design
which has become very popular."

8.Where do all the corks come from?
"We started by recycling our own wine corks, but our inventory quickly ran out.
We now purchase used wine corks in bulk. We also greatly appreciate the
donations of our friends and family who save their wine corks for us to recycle.
We always reassure our family and friends that all donation amounts will be held
in strict confidence."

9. Upcoming new cork items?
" We are always thinking of creative new ways to recycle our wine corks. Last
year it was our pet themed ornaments and candle rings that were a very popular
new addition to our product line. Most importantly all new products and ideas
would have to maintain the quality and integrity of our current products. We
enjoy being a part of Hapa Collective and look forward to an exciting next year."

Thank you Wine Country Crafters for letting us interview you guys!

Hapa Artist Spotlight: Anci Decor

Hapa Artist Spotlight: Anci Decor

                                       1.     What made you want to start making jewelry?

"I grew up in the European fashion industry in Budapest, Hungary. My parents owned fashion boutiques and my aunt is a wholesale fashion designer. Besides fashion I was making art and crafts all my life, my mom is a well-known ceramic artist in Budapest, so creating art was in my everyday routing. That’s how I started making jewelry."

                                                    2.  What is your jewelry made of ?

"Anci Decor jewelry pieces are made of sterling silver, gold-filled chains, and wires. Most of my stones are semi precious stones, one of my favorites is chalcedony because it is so versatile and comes in beautiful colors."

                         3.     Where would you like to see your jewelry line in 5 yrs? 10 yrs?

"In 5-10 years, I would love to just walk down the street and see independent, stylish and confident women wearing my jewelry!  My goal is to keep my line affordable so everyday women can wear it and feel great about themselves.  Also it would be amazing to see my line being carried at places like Anthropology, Urban Outfitters, and other hip stores….and to have celebrities wearing it at the Oscars haha!"

                                          4.     What inspires the pieces you make?

"Anci Decor jewelry is inspired by the simple and chic European style blended with American creativity.  I’m inspired by the long history of great European designers but want to also incorporate the fun and free-spirited American culture."

5.How would you describe your jewelry line in 3 words?

                                              "  Casual-chic, sophisticated, edgy"

6.What are some of your favorite pieces you make and why?

"One of my favorite pieces is the extra long earrings, which are very simple and light but gives an extra kick to your outfit. Those pieces get a lot of compliments when you wear them. Another favorite is the slave bracelet line, which is a delicate chain bracelet, very elegant and hip, it dresses your hands, which we tend to forget about."

Hapa Artist Spotlight: Anita's Designs

{Hapa Artist Spotlight: Anita's Designs}

1. When did your love for jewelry start?
My passion for jewelry started at a very early age. My Grandmother worked at an office as a typist and I loved seeing what she would be wearing when she came to visit. Both my Mother and Grandma would let me look in their jewelry boxes, which was always such fun to me. At about 10 yrs of age, jewelry beads and stringing materials became readily available. That started me on making my own strung necklaces and macramé necklaces incorporating beads."

2. What made you want to start making jewelry?
I became inspired and motivated to make jewelry on a larger scale. While walking my dogs on west coast beaches I started picking up beach glass. This encouraged friends and neighbors staying near us to do the same. These sea glass treasures led me to incorporating them into jewelry. The added bonus was while traveling . I would stop at different bead stores around the country and find additional unique items."

3. How would you describe your jewelry style?
Organic, incorporating found objects, and my designs tend to have components in them that are recycled, and/or from vintage pieces. I have friends and family that share my enthusiasm for jewelry and give me their inherited vintage or dated jewelry that they would never wear, or their broken pieces. Knowing I may be able to use.”

4. What are your jewelry pieces made out of?
Sea Glass, Some are sterling silver, Gold Filled wire. Stainless steel wire. Copper. Copper over wire, leather, Suede, buttons, vintage pieces, vintage watch faces, beads, hardware pieces. Beads: brass, silver, glass, pearls, vintage, recycled, handmade, paper. Vintage or old watch faces.”

5. What or whom inspires the pieces you make?
Nature and the colors around me. The colors in a piece of fabric, vintage cards, or old movies where I see a piece and love a part of it. I can be dropping items at the recycling center and something catches my eye, along with hardware store, and thrift stores. A stash of buttons. I am addicted to buttons. On and on.”

6.      What do you want people to know about your jewelry line that is important?
“My pieces are unique one of a kind. All are handcrafted by me. One of my signature pieces is the Sea glass that I have collected all over the west coast and in Baja (Mexico). Some of my necklaces clasps are hand forged and crafted by me, and many have options on the length they can be worn.”

Hapa Artist Spotlight: Sylvia Marie

Hapa Artist Spotlight: Sylvia Marie

1.      How long have you been working with furniture, home decor items, and making hats?

“I've been enjoying the journey of creating art and crafts for as long as I can remember. Designing the flowers on hats, and mosaic art work on repurposed furniture is still fairly new. I would say a little over two years.”

2.      You make beautiful tables/furniture, where do you get the pieces you put on top of the furniture?

“I've always enjoyed creating something beautiful out of something broken. Pieces of china, sea and stain glass, natural treasures found in vintage shops, thrift stores and sometime just given to me. All are a part of hunting for beautiful trinkets and treasures!”

3.      Where did the name Honeys Hat come about?

“After my mother, whose real name is Gloria. The grandkids would hear their grandfather call her "Honey", so they called her Honey too. I wanted to create something lovely in memory of my Mom who lost her battle to cancer. Honey's Hat are named after her.”

4.       What inspires the pieces you make? (Ex. how do you know what pieces to use on your table, color choices for the furniture, the hat designs, etc.)

“Every mosaic art work on furniture is always a surprise for me! Once I find a special piece, I create around it. As for Honey's Hats a pure joy on learning new flowers to make, trying to copy nature.”

5.      What or whom inspired you to start making furniture/home decor items and hats?

“My Mom, the journey started with her in mind with her sweet hairless head. She is my inspiration.”
Thank you Sylvia Marie for taking the time to do this interview. We have a full collection of Sylvia Marie's beautiful hats, home accessories and furniture.
